Abuelo

(produced in partnership with Kodak & Kickstarter)

Directed by Dan Rodriguez, Produced by Ethan Felizzari-Castillo

ABUELO tells a story between a retired Photographer and Grandfather, Hernan Sanchez, and his Grandson, Jonathan Sanchez. Jonathan pays Hernan regular visits to check up on him but has grown distant as a result of the monotony of the visits. The two come to share an intimate moment that strengthens their relationship discussing family and facing technological/ language barriers.

ABUELO was inspired by the Director’s relationship his Grandma, or "Abuelita", along with the belief that relationships between family members are built by moments shared between one another which come together as a whole.

Most importantly, ABUELO, embraces the role of culture and language in a family, especially as this becomes diluted as the generations progress. Having Latino origins in the script from Writer/Director Daniel Rodriguez the choice to set a large portion of the film in Spanish was an embrace of a culture that he is very proud of. Despite this Daniel doesn't wish to alienate non-Latino audiences because he used the culture he knows to create this story but firmly believes cultures of all sorts will relate in one way or another.
